This new 2 unit Specialist Disability Accommodation development with OOA facilities .is designed in accordance with NDIS standards. The strategy of the design was to provide residents with a choice of social or ‘shared’ spaces, or opportunity to comfortably retreat to their own space. A series of small courtyards are sited throughout, providing quality outlooks, to landscaped gardens, access to natural light and ventilation to all bedrooms, bathrooms and living spaces. The units have been designed to be robust, low maintenance and enduring in style, while importantly providing a practical but ‘homely’ environment for residents. Together with considered siting and orientation this will help keep operating costs down. Careful planning and simple construction methods help ensure the initial build cost is economical. The form and material palette are a contemporary design but draw on and are sympathetic to the existing established neighbourhood.
